THIS CHRISTMAS IN LONDON Beyonce devotee Luisa Omielan, star of acclaimed Italian film ‘The Great Beauty’ Toni Servillo, a festive array of bass DJs, an angelic host of comics, and a partridge in a ‘Fuerzabruta’ tree all feature in the following TW-recommended events…

COMEDY: Christmas @ Angel Comedy, Camden Head (Angel), 23 Dec – 1 Jan 2014
Angel’s blessedly free-entry festivities this year get cracking with a screening of Bill Murray’s ‘Scrooged’ movie (23 Dec), and feature fly-ins by winged Christmas cherubs Glenn Moore (aka one half of skit puppets the Thunderbards), evergreen Angel leg Barry Ferns, and quick-witted improv pro Paul T Eyres. Details here.

COMEDY: Ivor Dembina’s Traditional Jewish Christmas Eve, Camden Head (Camden), 24 Dec
Mr Ivor Dembina takes the lead in this traditional alternative to a Christian Christmas, inviting Mark Maier, Sol Bernstein and Lewis Schaffer to all talk amusingly at the Matzah Ball. Details and tickets here.

COMEDY: Luisa Omielan – What Would Beyonce Do?, Soho Theatre, 27 Dec – 11 Jan 2014
Hands down one of the most swaggy shows of 2013 (and 2012 for that matter), Luisa Omielan’s ‘WWBD’ finds her looking to R&B’s divine oracle, Queen Bey, for spiritual life-guidance. Details and tickets here.

MUSIC: Rinse Boxing Day Party feat Skream/Boddika/Ben Pearce/Joker, Fabric, 26 Dec (pictured)
As ever, label/station/dance religion Rinse’s post-Xmas service is what the Baby Jesus might call a ‘banger’, mainly thanks to its HQ listings – which name headliner and EDM leading light Skream, technophile Boddika, deep-house DJ Ben Pearce, and Bristolian bass force Joker. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: Fuerzabruta, Roundhouse, 23 Dec – 2 Mar 2014
Back again following its vastly acclaimed previous outings, this high-vaulting, wall-smashingly physical theatre show from Argentina – the title of which aptly translates as ‘Brute Force’ – is a heart-stopping parade of sights, feats, stunts and oversized props. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: Inner Voices, Barbican Centre, 26-29 Dec
A loose translation of its original title, ‘Le voci di dentro’, award-winning actor/theatre-maker Toni Servillo (star of this year’s critical smash-hit film ‘The Great Beauty’) manages a fourteen-man cast in this darkly comical play by Eduardo De Filippo, which blurs the fine line between dreams and reality. Details and tickets here.
