TODAY IN LONDON, TW’s tipped events feature rock chair-grrrl Kathleen Hanna, and camp comic headliners Topping & Butch…
COMEDY: Headliners feat Topping & Butch/Sean Percival/Carey Marx, George IV, 10 Jan
Sassy cabaret pair Topping & Butch, ex-welder (and presently a comedian) Sean Percival and dark humourist Carey Marx earmark tonight’s Headliners bill for success. And LOLs, of course. Details and tickets here.
FILM: London Short Film Festival, various locations, 10-19 Jan (pictured)
Celebrating its eleventh year celebrating brevity in cinema, the LSFF mingles independent shorts with live music, training events, debates and parties. Kicking things off tonight is an ICA-based screening of Sini Anderson’s doc ‘The Punk Singer’, which scrutinises the life and times of riot grrlll pioneer and right-on sister Kathleen Hanna. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Not I/Footfalls/Rockaby, Royal Court Theatre, 10-18 Jan
Acting paragon Lisa Dwan voices a trio of one-woman plays by Samuel Beckett. ‘Not I’ is a stark soliloquy spoken (as Beckett meant it) as if at the rate of thought, ‘Footfalls’ finds Dwan – as May – pacing a landing as her mother dies in the next room, and ‘Rockaby’ explores loneliness, and centres on an elderly lady in a rocking chair. Details and tickets here.
