And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are….
MUSIC/FESTIVAL: The Camden Crawl | various locations | 20-21 Jun
Whilst the Camden-wide #CC14 fest (which is spread over 25+ stages in the NW1 area, all accessible all weekend with wristband), is headliner-less per se, it certainly isn’t lacking in big acts. Playing over the two-day span are weirdo psych-poppers Of Montreal, mind-bending electro sprite Laurel Halo, Croydon producer Plastician, NYC-based nu-rap pack Shabazz Palaces, Belfast band Girls Names, Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor and The Beta Band’s Steve Mason. Details and tickets here.
MUSIC: In Dreams – David Lynch Revisited | Barbican | 20 Jun
Villagers’ Conor O’Brien, Savages’ Jehnny Beth, Japanese alt-pop pairing Cibo Matto, choral folk flock Stealing Sheep and Tindersticks’ Stuart Staples pay live homage to the original scores and borrowed soundtracks to a host of films from master-of-darkness David Lynch. With David Coulter directing, tonight’s eerie repertoire features covers of songs by Roy Orbison, David Bowie, Chris Isaak, Marilyn Manson and Elvis Presley. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: The Valley Of Astonishment | Young Vic | 20 Jun – 12 Jul (pictured)
Peter Brook and Marie-Hélène Estienne’s new play examines the very zeitgeisty effects of synaesthesia (or blending the senses), integrating real-life stories of those with the condition to look at the world in all kinds of radical ways. Details and tickets here.
