TODAY IN LONDON, TW’s tipped events feature Scottish rock band Mogwai, tip-top improv comics Sarah Louise Young and Cariad Lloyd, and a dollop of goodold ‘Summer Lovin’ with Danny N Sandy…
COMEDY: Improvathon, Park Theatre, 24-26 Jan (pictured)
The seventh ever Improvathon – a 50-hour comic soap opera, all of it unrehearsed – takes place in deep space, on futuristic pleasure cruiser The Starship Xanadu. This year’s extra-terrestrial 25-man cast features ‘Julie Madly Deeply’ darling Sarah Louise Young, BBC Three’s newest character actress Cariad Lloyd and Ricky Gervais’ ‘Derek’ sidekick Ruth Bratt as a crew of aliens, star treksters, and space tourists. Details and tickets here.
FILM: Sing-A-Long Grease, Prince Charles Cinema, 24 Jan
Let’s face facts. ‘Grease’ was, is and will always be the one that we want. And what camper, more extravagant way to celebrate it than tonight’s special showing of Travolta and co’s slicked-back rockabilly romp, which comes with its own MC, fancy dress contest and strict singing policy. Details and tickets here.
MUSIC: Mogwai, Southbank Centre, 24-25 Jan
Lent a new lease of life, ironically, by their acclaimed OST to Gallic zombie horror ‘Les Revenants’, stormy Scots rockers Mogwai play back their first non-TV-scoring LP in a while, ‘Rave Tapes’, with support from Koreless tonight and Clinic tomorrow. Details and tickets here.
