And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are….
COMEDY: Ladies Live Longer – Volunteerology | Canal Cafe Theatre | 6-7 Jul (pictured) Funny Women Award (and 5/5 ThreeWeeks review)-winning twinset LLL are back, and courting a cult-like show in which they pose as recruiters from the in-no-way suspicious Volunteerology Society. Details and tickets here.
FILM: Messages For Posterity / The Outsider Inside – The Complete Dennis Potter | BFI Southbank | 6 Jun – 30 Jul The BFI fires off iconic TV writer Dennis Potter’s vast body of dramatic work, which still burns so brightly in the likes of ‘Pennies From Heaven’, ‘The Singing Detective’ and ‘Visitors, Brimstone & Treacle’. Starting with his radical youth at Oxford, to his last creation ‘Cold Lazarus’, this two-part season of talks and screenings looks at Potter as artist, innovator and man. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Skylight | Wyndham’s Theatre | 6 Jun – 23 Aug Run, don’t walk, to save a place at ‘Skylight’, David Hare’s psychological thriller circa 1995, which, by the way, stars acting A-listers Carey Mulligan and (‘age gap’?? What age gap?) Bill Nighy. Ably directed by Stephen Daldrey, Carey plays a penniless teacher visited by her former love interest (aka Nighy), rich restaurant owner, and his son. Details and tickets here.
