And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are…
THEATRE: Sleeping Truths Lie | Tristan Bates Theatre | 11-16 Aug
Actress/writer Melanie Hunter plays Anna, a coma patient trapped alone with her mind (oh, and a simple, biscuit eating, shape-shifting entity named Sammy), in this subconscious show laid kindly on as part of the Camden Fringe. Details and tickets here.
COMEDY: Brett Goldstein Tolerated This So His Children Will Be Next | Etcetera Theatre | 11-13 Aug
Skilled story-sharing comic Brett Goldstein follows his gift to last year’s Fringe field – a clever, “sincere and inventive” porn-themed show – with a nod to a Manic Street Preachers track, in which he alights nimbly on topics like sex, narcotics and Kevin Bacon. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Othello | Bussey Building/CLF Art Cafe | 11-21 Aug (pictured)
Devising a topical (if pretty high-risk) new twist on Shakespeare’s classic play, the By Jove Theatre co instead make the titular ‘Othello’ a gay woman, even splicing newly-written speech and modern meaning into Shakey-P’s medieval text. Details and tickets here.
