COMEDY: Shake With Laughter feat Jarred Christmas/Jo Brand/Piff The Magic Dragon/Max And Ivan, The Comedy Store, 14 Oct
Comedy For A Cure calls on an A-team of crack comics to raise mirth (and dough) in aid of Parkinson’s UK. Tonight’s ringleader, holly jolly Aussie Jarred Christmas, is joined in the charitable japes by the brillo Jo Brand, tearaway sketch pair Max And Ivan and terribly clever lizard magician Piff The Magic Dragon. Details and tickets here.
MUSIC: Active Child, XOYO, 14 Oct
LA-based artist Pat Grossi presents his genre-bending sonic baby Active Child (and new EP ‘Rapor’), by singing sweetly and atop layered waves of laptop-generated electronica. Details and tickets here.
OPERA: Madam Butterfly, English National Opera (London Coliseum), 14 Oct – 1 Dec (pictured)
Anthony Minghella’s award-winning spin on Puccini’s ‘Madam Butterfly’ alights once again on the ENO stage to bat its rich, cinematic wings, basing its imagery in traditional Japanese theatre. Leading lady sopranos Dina Kuznetsova and Mary Plazas (Minghella’s original Butterfly) share the opera’s tragic title part, whilst Welsh tenors Timothy Richards and Gwyn Hughes Jones play her sailor boy Pinkerton. Details and tickets here.
