EXHIBITIONS: Fashion On The Ration – 1940s Street Style | Imperial War Museum | 5 Mar – 31 Aug (pictured)
How did fashion survive under 1940s ration? This exhibition at the Imperial War Museum shows how men and women created and adapted clothes and accessories to ensure that war and austerity did not force them to give up on their appearances. THEATRE: The 2000 Year Old Man | JW3 | 9-22 Mar
Back in 1960, before ‘The Producers’, ‘Blazing Saddles’ and ‘Young Frankenstein’, Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner wrote ‘The 2000 Year Old Man’, a comedy routine pitched as an interview with an extremely elderly man (I reckon you can guess how old) about the many historical figures he has known in his long life. A best-selling album at the time, the show has never been performed live in the UK until now – featuring actor Kerry Shale in the title role and comedian Chris Neill as the interviewer. VISUAL ART: Joshua Reynolds – Experiments In Paint | The Wallace Collection | 12 Mar – 7 Jun
This free exhibition gives access to an array of paintings by Joshua Reynolds, widely considered to be one of the greatest portraitists of the eighteenth century. The show offers a snapshot of Joshua Reynolds’s creative process, and reveals discoveries made during a four-year research project into the Reynolds works in the Wallace Collection. Details here.
