By TW Editorial | Published on Monday 14 October 2013
TODAY IN LONDON stand-up luminaries Doc Brown and Katherine Ryan, Music Theatre Wales and a real melange of France’s finest ‘alternative pop’ artists feature in the following TW-recommended events…
COMEDY: Scoundrels Comedy Club feat Katherine Ryan/Doc Brown, Century Club, 21 Oct
The Century Club hosts something of an historic line-up, given the pedigree represented in tonight’s selection of comics, including: acid Canadian sweetie Katherine Ryan, the incurably funny Doc Brown and new-ish face Harriet Kemsley. Details and tickets here.
MUSIC: OohLaLA! Festival, Village Underground, 2-24 Oct (pictured)
So, there’s a cosmopolitan new festival on the block, and it’s really, really French. The first of many London-based OohLaLA! showcases plays ambassador to leading chanteur Dominique A, cold-wave soloist Lescop, Paris clique ≠FAUVE, pop auteur Christine And The Queens, dreamy indie spectre Petit Fantôme and Tame Impala offshoot Moodoïd, serving extra (French) fancies in the shape of oh I don’t know… call it a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’. Details and tickets here.
OPERA: Greek, Linbury Studio Theatre (Royal Opera House), 21-26 Oct
Inspired by a verse script by Steven Berkoff, Mark-Anthony Turnage’s explosive first opera blows the centuries-old Oedipus story to bits. Music Theatre Wales and Michael McCarthy bring it together tonight in a blistering new production. Details and tickets here.
