So Christmas Day may be over, but the twelve days of Christmas have begun, in the middle of which you’ll find New Year. So, that’s something to be getting on with, no? And here are some cultural things to distract you from turkey sandwiches and family gatherings in the run up to 2013…

NEW YEAR’S CABARET CHOICES

Boris And Sergey’s Vaudevillian Adventure, Soho Theatre Upstairs, 27-29 Dec
Profane puppet-masters Boris And Sergey present a lewd, crude and five-star ThreeWeeks-reviewed melee of Vaudevillian mirth, the idea being to leave an audience “flabbergasted; in awe, astonishment and fits of laughter”. Trust us, book tickets now.

NEW YEAR’S COMEDY CHOICES

The Comedy Store New Year’s Ever Stand-Up Show, Comedy Store Piccadilly Circus, 31 Dec
The Comedy Store assembles a memorable ensemble cast of players to befit its 2012-ending gala finale, with invites given to Canadian bear enthusiast Pete Johansson and nil-by-mouth mime The Boy With Tape On His Face, consummate comic pros Imran Yusuf, Paul Tonkinson, Curtis Walker and Stefano Paolini. RSVP here.

Comedy Carnival At The Grand – New Year’s Eve, The Clapham Grand, 31 Dec
Wood-chucking Canadian comic Glenn Wool, ever-enchanting musical comedienne Sara Pascoe, straight-faced British Comedy Award nominee John Moloney and illustrious Antipodean MC Pete Jonas. Buy tickets here.

The Nights Before New Year’s Eve, Canal Cafe Theatre, 28-30 Dec
Smart-casual sartorialist David Mills reigns in impeccable fashion over this three-night new year’s preamble, as will also feature the various comic stylings (on a nightly-changing basis) of Beyonce megafan Luisa Omielan, the Michael McIntyre-esque Lindsay Sharman, Greek comedienne Katerina Vrana and MC Peyvand Knorsandi. Booking info here.

NEW YEAR’S CLUB CHOICES

Dollop NYE, Troxy, 31 Dec
BFF-of-Jessie Ware, DJ Julio Bashmore, is going to attempt a bi-headlining NYE feat tonight by appearing at Dollop’s London AND Nottingham-based new year’s raves. His co-stars at the London edition will be Jackmaster, Oneman, Krystal Klear, Deadboy, Blackfoot Phoenix and others besides. Party particulars here.

Fabric NYE Party, Fabric, 31 Dec
Fabric, always reliable as far as great parties go, has NYE sewn up this year with a twelve hour bash. Fronting things in the main space is tech house and techno DJ Craig Richards, plus Four Tet, Steffi, Laura Jones, Virginia, Fabric resident Terry Francis and a live set by Desolat co-founder Martin Buttrich. Details here.

Jazz Café NYE Party, Jazz Cafe Camden, 31 Dec
If you’re looking to spend NYE (somewhat) sensibly, may I present the Jazz Café New Year’s Eve party, hosted by Jazzie B. He’ll be DJing right the way into 2013, and you’ll be able to catch live sets from Mica Paris and Nathan Watson. Advance ticket hotline here.

TOY & Heavy Friends, Shacklewell Arms, 31 Dec
Goth-guitar creepers TOY host a too-cool NYE DJ-off featuring Cherrystones, Charlie Boyer And The Voyeurs, The History Of Apple Pie, Beach Creep and SEXBEAT. No live acts, but moody vibes galore. Facebook event page here.

NEW YEAR’S THEATRE CHOICES

Fuerzabruta, Roundhouse Camden, 27 Dec – 26 Jan 2013 (pictured)
This famed Argentine melodrama – whose title quite aptly translates as ‘Brute Force’ – features a heart-stopping, pulse-racing parade of sights, feats, stunts and oversized props. As a post-Christmas hangover remedy, it’s kill or cure. Consult this ticketing page for info.
