Angela Lansbury

TW’s tipped events TODAY IN LONDON feature top comedy types Bridget Christie and Nina Conti, the very first outing of the ‘X-Factor’ musical, and Jessica Fletcher herself, Dame Angela ‘Bed knobs’ Lansbury…

COMEDY: Live At The Chapel feat Bridget Christie/Nina Conti, Union Chapel, 1 Mar
Pulling the strings at March’s LATC, it’s the first lady of ventriloquism Nina Conti, and her crazy hilarious co-headliner Bridget Christie. Suave showman Mike Wozniak is also down to clown around in the house of God. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: Blithe Spirit, Gielgud Theatre, 1 Mar –  7 Jun (pictured)
America’s answer to Miss Marple (a role she actually played once I think), ageless ‘Murder, She Wrote’ star Angela Lansbury is looking to slay her first London stage play in decades. She stars again as loopy clairvoyant Madame Arcati in Coward’s silly seance farce, the very same part that earned her a Tony Award back in 2009. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: I Can’t Sing! The X-Factor Musical, London Palladium, 1 Mar onwards
**This show has been postponed (for a second time) – previews will kick off at a TBC date very soon**
This new musical show based on ITV’s ‘The X-Factor’ has lots going for it – a script by Harry Hill, songs and lyrics by Hill’s ‘TV Burp’ jingle-writer Steve Brown and cool formation moves from ZooNation’s first lady of the dance Kate Prince. Even better, Sean Foley of ‘The Ladykillers’ is in the director’s chair, whilst  ‘Sister Act’/’The Color Purple’ star Cynthia Erivo plays big-voiced ‘X’-ling Chenica and Nigel Harman simply IS Si-Co. This is the first preview, so who knows how it will turn out, but it could (should?) be good. Details and tickets here.
