And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are…
FILM: The Night Is Young | Barbican | 30 Aug (pictured)
The Barbican hosts (as the finale to its ‘Eye-Popping Colour!’ season) this one-off 4pm showing of Leos Carax’s ‘The Night Of Young’ circa 1986. Defined by its bright-hued cinematography, it stars Michel Piccoli as an ageing gangster who traps Alex, the younger son of his slain comrade, into a plot to break into a lab and steal an AIDS-like virus. Juliette Binoche plays Piccoli’s mistress who, in inveitable French ‘ménage à trois’ tradition, Alex falls in love with. Details and tickets here.
MUSIC: Nina Kraviz + Midland + Marcel Dettman | Fabric | 30 Aug
The high tsarina of Detroit-style electronica, Ms Nina Kraviz, takes the ‘Room 1 Headliner’ title at tonight’s Fabric-xtravaganza, backed by pivotal London DJ Midland and William Kouam Djoko, aka the host of Amsterdam super-club Trouw. Spaces 2 and 3, meanwhile, will be piloted by techno maestro Marcel Dettman and relatively fresh-faced label Danse Club. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: The Comedy Of Errors | Shakespeare’s Globe | 30 Aug – 12 Oct
A classic case of Shakespearean ‘mistaken identity’ bants, ‘The Comedy Of Errors’ (here directed by Blanche McIntyre) is a long and complicated chain of slapstick mishaps co-starring estranged twin bros Antipholus and Antipholus, and their manservants (estranged twins Dromio and Dromio) who are all thrown into a city known for its sorcery. Duly, beautifully-scripted chaos follows. Details and tickets here.
