TODAY IN LONDON Richard Wagner, ‘Spinal Tap’ hero Harry Shearer (and his lady wife), popstar-on-a-mission Charli XCX and a score of record labels with wares to sell all feature in the following TW-recommended events…
COMEDY: Judith Owen & Harry Shearer’s Sing-a-long, Leicester Square Theatre, 30 Nov
Ned Flanders himself, Harry Shearer, and his real-life wife Judith Owen, harmonise with hire-in backing singers Rob Brydon, Maureen Lipman, Jacqui Dankworth, Marcus Brigstocke and Alex Lowe aka ‘Barry from Watford’. Details and tickets here.
MUSIC: Independent Label Market, Spitalfields Market, 30 Nov (pictured)
FAO fans of vinyl/CD/merch bazaars of an ‘indie’ persuasion (and drunk shopping), the Independent Label Market and Association Of Independent Music have joined hands with the London Brewers’ Market to present an extra special, extra independent, extra beery Christmas event at London’s Old Spitalfields Market all-day today. Representing the record side of things will be over 80 labels, whilst a league of brewers will supply the ale. Live music, DJ sets and “sampling” will go on throughout the day. Details here.
MUSIC: Charli XCX, Islington Academy, 30 Nov
Singing candy cane Charli XCX – co-writer of Icona Pop’s smash hit ‘I Love It’, and her new solo single ‘SuperLove’ – will bring a little ‘True Romance’ (also the title of her first LP) to her performance tonight. Details and tickets here.
OPERA: Parsifal, Royal Opera House, 30 Nov – 18 Dec
Stephen Langridge’s ‘inventive’ staging of Wagner’s final great masterpiece – the strange, fateful tale of a young man who shows up at the Kingdom Of The Holy Grail knowing nothing, not even his name – rests for a spell at the old ROH. Details and tickets here.
