TW’s tipped events TODAY IN LONDON feature ‘Actress / writer / film geek’ Gem Carmella, ‘Golden Brown’ heroes The Stranglers, and a wealth of WOW-worthy women…
COMEDY/FILM: Gem Carmella – #SuperBadassActionHero, Hackney Picturehouse, 8 Mar
‘Actress/writer/geek’ Gem Carmella and friends present a series of fantastic films with a kickass twist, showing Louis Paxton’s ‘Terminator with hipsters’ thriller ‘Geoffosaurus’, Tea & Cheese’s WikiLeaks revenge movie ‘Assangenator’, and ‘Earth’s Last Hope‘ by Riccardo Servini, in which superheroes are put through job interviews. Each short is designed to instruct guests to be more super-heroic, with “action battle reenactment, guns, awesome one-liners, guns, a cardboard car chase, and guns” also forming part of the night’s training programme. Details and tickets here.
FESTIVAL: Wowzers Festival, various locations, 8-9 Mar (pictured)
This entirely FREE weekender, a fringe-style sidebar to the Southbank Centre’s excellent Women Of The World festival, celebrates feminism via a medley of independent activities and events, from arts, craft and dance classes, to performance, to debates, to live bands and late-night DJs. Details here.
MUSIC: The Stranglers, Eventim Apollo, 8 Mar
“On this, the occasion of our Ruby anniversary, I would like to take this opportunity to stick my fingers up to everyone who wrote us off and dismissed us…”, writes a browned-off JJ Burnel of The Stranglers, quite rightly so. And to prove all the doubters wrong, Burnel and band are back at the Apollo tonight to mark 40 golden years in the game. Details and tickets here.
