The Hard Man

TODAY IN LONDON, TW’s tipped events feature Joan ‘Snickers’ Collins, late hip hop great J Dilly (in spirit) and ‘Hard Man’ playwright Jimmy Boyle…

MUSIC: J Dilla Changed My Life, Scala, 2 Feb
Grand master hip hop sampler J Dilla’s life is paid fitting tribute by his surviving fam, both real (his ma, Maureen Yancey and brother Illa J) and figurative (DJs Shortee Blitz, Harry Love, Spin Doctor and Mr Thing), in a bid to raise cash for twin charities the J-Dilla Foundation & Lupus UK. Details and tickets here.

SPOKEN WORD: Joan Collins – One Night With Joan, Leicester Square Theatre, 2-9 Feb
Enjoy a sensational night with old Hollywood’s #1 diva Ms Joan Collins via one/all of the nine evening/matinee shows she’s gracing the LSQ with this month. Amongst all the gossip, Joanie’ll dish on the catfights in ‘Dynasty’, losing the part of ‘Cleopatra’ to Elizabeth Taylor, and, most importantly of course, what it was really like filming that Snickers ad. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: The Hard Man, Finborough Theatre, 2-18 Feb (pictured)
Inspired by the life of its co-writer Jimmy Boyle (the other is award-winning Tom McGrath), this grim, Glasgow gangland drama, based in the 1970s, describes a petty thief’s brutal first brush with serious crime and, subsequently, serious punishment. Details and tickets here.
