And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are….
COMEDY: Comedy In The Sun w/ Tony Law + Ian Smith + Lou Sanders | The Sun Of Camberwell | 22 Jun
Priced at £1 shy of a fiver, this bright little Camberwell comic showcase today features surreal Canadian wildman Tony Law, off-piste comedienne Lou Sanders, ‘flappable’ stand-up Ian Smith, all-American funny guy Al Lubel, and moonlighting Weirdos wit Joz Norris. Details and tickets here.
MUSICAL/THEATRE: Hostage Song | Finborough Theatre | 22 Jun – 8 Jul (pictured) Anyone with a bleak or black SOH will appreciate this anti-musical from off-Broadway writers Clay McLeod Chapman and Kyle Jarrow, the indie-rock story of a man and woman taken captive. Blindfolded and waiting their fate, Jim and Jennifer distract themselves by inventing a fantasy land in which everything is fine. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: The Legend Of Hamba | Greenwich, Old Royal Naval College / Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park | 22-26 Jun
Linking in with this year’s infinitely varied Greenwich+Docklands International Fest, British-African theatre co Tiata Fahodzi’s ‘Legend Of Hamba’ is so named because ‘hamba’ is the Ndebele way to say ‘let’s go!’. Enacted in energetic and kinetic physical style, it’s a thing of spirits, myths, and empires won and lost, as a young man goes to war, is crowned king and condemned as a thief. Details and tickets here.
