Movies and munchies? Oh yes, in amongst this batch of ThisWeek tipped shows….
COMEDY/MUSIC FESTIVAL: Gillespie Gathering feat Kevin Eldon + John Hegley, Gillespie Park and Ecology Centre, 4 May
Elfin TV comedy celeb Kevin Eldon and poetic demigod John Hegley are the star attractions at this pay-what-you-like charity fete, donations to which will go straight to Islington Mind. Also playing live, singer-songwriter Jason McNiff and acoustic acts Joe Wilkes, Simon Stanley Ward, Lorraine Wood, Laura Tenschert, Black Scarr, Trent Miller, Crowheart Boy, James Burton and Robert Cheney. Details here.
FILM: Edible Cinema presents… Romeo & Juliet, 195 Piccadilly, 4 May
Edible Cinema is, to sum up, a high-spec film experience with the extra benefit of a ‘bite-sized’ menu designed to tie in with specific bits of the movie, which in today’s case is Baz Luhrman’s flashy Shakespearean sob-a-thon ‘Romeo & Juliet’. Seats + eats are £37, and sponsorship comes from princely gin-makers Bombay Sapphire. Details and tickets here.
MUSIC: Nozinja aka Shangaan Electro, Electrowerkz, 4 May (pictured)
A pivotal force in the shangaan game (that’s ‘shangaan’ as in the high-speed dance craze invented in Limpopo), Warp-signed South African producer Richard Nozinja brings his rapid-fire show to the chillier climes of Islington, and the Electrowerkz, for one night only. Details and tickets here.
