Comedy Musicals Theatre ThisWeek In London
Three To See on 11 Aug: Nick Doody, Therese Raquin, The Burnt Part Boys

And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…
Nick Doody | Phoenix Fringe | 11 Aug (pictured)
“Nick Doody wasn’t going to do an Edinburgh show this year because there wasn’t anything to talk about. This work in progress is an admission that he was very wrong…” He’s one of my absolute favourite comedians, so I am pretty glad he was very wrong, and I feel incredibly confident about recommending this work in progress. A class act. See this page here for info.
Therese Raquin | Southwark Playhouse | 11 Aug-3 Sep
This is a new staging of Émile Zola’s extremely sensational-for-the-times Thérèse Raquin, in which the protagonist, trapped in a sexless marriage, has an affair with her husband’s friend, an act which leads to what’s been described in this particular blurb as a “horrifying conclusion”. Yikes. Take a look at the venue website here to find out more.
The Burnt Part Boys | Park Theatre | 10 Aug-3 Sep
It’s a European premiere for this musical centred on tragic events: ‘The Burnt Part Boys’ depicts a group of teenagers living through the aftermath of a mining accident that claimed the lives of their fathers, and it sounds as though despite the slightly grim subject matter, it manages to be a heart-warming coming of age adventure.
