And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…

The Cocoa Butter Club | Underbelly Festival | 13 Sep (pictured)
“Welcome to The Cocoa Butter Club an exhilarating spectacle of all things Cabaret and beyond. A spirited soiree celebrating performers of colour. We are turning the heat up and inviting you to join a movement of culture, history and empowerment.” Well, that already sounds good, but here’s the extra reveal: it involves neo-Soul, R&B, motown, blues and jazz songs, burlesque, spoken word, live music, drag, voguing and fire breathing. Brilliant. Head this way for more info.

The Burning Tower | Kensal House Estate | 11 Sep-6 Oct
“Sarah and Em are best friends who grew up together in West London. Since 2017, they’ve worked hard researching their estates’ past as Living History youth ambassadors. Together they’ve prepared a presentation on the local heritage of social housing. But Grenfell’s shadow threatens the show as the performance space falls into darkness, fuses blow and Sarah starts to panic. Will a mysterious, old latecomer who keeps trying to take over prove a help or a hindrance?” A new, interactive response to the Grenfell fire, inspired by interviews with local West London estate residents, and performed at Kensal House estate. More here.

Camden Underground – A Woman In Search | Camden People’s Theatre | 13-14 Sep
This one one-woman show which takes a look at the line between actress and character: “as the two become blurred one cannot exist without the other so what happens if the two can’t stand each other?”. The play takes its inspiration from Luigi Pirandello’s ‘Six Characters in Search of an Author’, and is part of Camden Underground, a three week season of events created for unconventional or intimate spaces.
