Lead Pencil

And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…

Lead Pencil | Leicester Square Theatre | 30 Jun (pictured)
This sketch trio first caught our attention with their debut edfringe show, which our reviewer felt demonstrated that this team possessed a lot of promise. Subsequent Edinburgh shows confirmed that promise, and all the other critics agreed so you don’t have to take just our word for it. And apparently they are joined by a pair of top class guests – Spencer Jones and Kathryn Bond. Head this way for all the details.

NYT Playing Up – Ripple/Besieged | Arcola Theatre | 30 Jun-2 Jul
Participants in National Youth Theatre’s socially inclusive free and accredited nine month theatre course Playing Up (go here if you are interested in knowing more about it) present their graduation show consisting of two plays, ‘Ripple’, a dark comedy about a suicide attempt by Monsay Whitney, and ‘Besieged’, an exploration of war and survival from Aisha Zia. A chance to see some stars of the future at work, perhaps? See the venue website here for more info and tickets.

French Without Tears | Orange Tree Theatre | 30 Jun-30 Jul
I’ve pretty much always got time for a Rattigan revival, and I am not ashamed of that fact. Plus, this particular production is “back by popular demand”, apparently. The play is about a group of young men who are spending the summer at Monsieur Maingot’s French school to get ready for their diplomatic exam. A beautiful young woman arrives and distracts them all from what they should be doing… and the rest is comedy. Check this link here to book your tickets.
