Comedy Theatre ThisWeek In London
Three To See on 8 Oct: Joan, She Called Me Mother, Comedy International Showcase
By TW Editorial | Published on Thursday 1 October 2015
And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…
Joan | Camden People’s Theatre | 8-10 Oct
This, I am sure, will prove to be an unusual and unconventional sort of telling of the Joan of Arc story, given that it’s described as a fusion of new writing and drag king cabaret. This highly original sounding piece is performed by Lucy Jane Parkinson, AKA Drag Idol UK Champion 2014 LoUis Cyfer. See this page here for more info and to book.
She Called Me Mother | Stratford Circus | 8-11 Oct (pictured)
Playwright Michelle Innes has penned this piece in the Trinidadian vernacular, which is interesting, and it’s to be performed by award winning-and-nominated actress Cathy Tyson, which is great, so I think it’s a safe bet that this will be pretty good; it promises to be a highly poignant exploration homelessness, love, loss and society. See this page here for more info.
Comedy International Showcase | Pleasance London | 8 Oct
The title of this is mildly uninspiring, if you ask me, but I suppose it accurately describes what’s going on. The host is the fabulous US import Abigoliah Schamaun, the headliners are Men In Coats, and they’re joined by a wonderfully international (clue was in the great title) cast of supporting comedians including Francesco De Carlo and Yuriko Kotani. Plus, the proceeds of this evening are going to charity, which is lovely. More info from right about here.
