And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…

COMEDY: Sahar Mirhadi – Dawn Of The Geek | Camden Comedy Club | 20-23 Aug
Sahar Mirhadi’s ‘Dawn Of The Geek’ is a story of self acceptance, of passion meeting obsession, and of stereotypes dancing in a dazzling Anglo-Iranian beat. We learn how she dealt with the recurrence of being shunned for Nintendo, left for wrestling and lied to by Walt Disney. Details and tickets here.

MUSIC: Atomic Bomb! The Music Of William Onyeabor | Royal Festival Hall | 20 Aug (pictured)
William Onyeabor was a big popstar in Nigeria during the 1970s and 80s, but his music was largely lost to the mists of time in subsequent years after he moved on to other things. More recently, he has been rediscovered by David Byrne and his Luaka Bop record label. Here Byrne and others perform Onyeabor’s music as part of the Meltdown festival. Details and tickets here.

MUSIC: Hypnotic Brass Ensemble | Queen Elizabeth Hall | 20 Aug
Also in the Meltdown Festival programme today are the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, an eight piece band comprising eight sons of jazz trumpeter and composer Philip Cohran and performing a mixture of jazz, funk, soul and hip-hop. Details and tickets here.
