TW’S tipped events TODAY IN LONDON feature Secret Cinema, and on the grave side, some of WW1’s most abiding artists and photographers…
ART: The Great War In Portraits, National Portrait Gallery, 27 Feb – 15 Jun (pictured)
In this, the centenary year of WW1, the NPT splotlights the various ways artists reacted to and represented ‘the war to end all wars’, in a free exhibit depicting those involved. For instance, a grainy photo of Gavrilo Princip (who, aged 19, assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand, kick-starting the long-looming conflict) is placed against a backdrop of lofty portraits of military and political leaders, and of ordinary soliders – from medal winners to the fallen. Details here.
FILM: Secret Cinema presents… The Grand Budapest Hotel, secret location, 27 Feb – 30 Mar
As always, Secret Cinema, who’ve fixed many an interactive, experimental and ‘immersive’ experience for film fans, present a series of highly secretive screenings of Wes Anderson’s new flick, the Ralph Fiennes-starring ‘GBH’, in a quirky setting. Most likely, and this is a wild stab in the dark, a hotel. And check-in only costs £57! Details and tickets here.
