And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are….
COMEDY: Carey Marx – Intensive Carey | Soho Theatre | 28-31 May (pictured)
A fixed presence on the comedy scene since, like, always, the present-day Carey Marx is this evening riffing on the heart attack he had a few years back, obviously a serious thing, but Marx contrives to make it funny and touching, too. Details and tickets here.
SPOKEN WORD/FILM: Noir Is The Colour | Cine Lumiere | 29 May – 26 Jun
The Institut Francais calls on a host of noirish authors, from France, the UK and Europe, to come and discuss what it is that puts the the ‘thrall’ in ‘enthralling crime fiction’. With Prix Goncourt-winning ‘Alex’ writer Pierre Lemaitre and ‘Charlie Resnick’ novellist John Harvey in conversation tonight, latter events will feature gripping chit-chat from Bernard Minier, Nicci French, Marc Dugain and Peter Guttridge, and a screening of 1989 movie ‘Monsieur Hire’, a tense murder thriller based on the book Georges Simenon, plus a Q&A with Simenon biographers Pierre Assouline and Patrick Marnham. Details and tickets here.
FILM/MUSIC: Star Trek – Live In Concert | Royal Albert Hall | 29-31 May
JJ Abrams ‘Star Trek’ remake, the one with Simon Pegg et al, gets several stellar screenings neath the twinkling lights of the Royal Albert Hall’s iconic dome, with the movie burning all the brighter for having its Michael Giacchino-composed score beaming live on site via the 21st Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Details and tickets here.
