Today in London: Friday 14 December 2012
By TW Editorial | Published on Friday 7 December 2012
Just because it’s Monkey Day today, TW London has set its not inconsiderable simian wiles to the task of nit-picking the very best of London’s cultural events.
The ones happening now, soon or in a while are as follows…
TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES
Clever Peter’s New Material Night, Pleasance Theatre, 14 Dec – 13 Jan 2013
Radio 4’s smart new commissions Clever Peter moderate a novel night’s comedy co-featuring Sam Fletcher, outre Sketchercists Allnutt & Simpson, Lou Sanders’ non-creepy alter ego Pattie Brewster, and class Essex act The Silky Pair. Tickets to it all here.
Paul Foot – Kenny Larch Is Dead, Bloomsbury Theatre, 14 Dec (pictured)
A sell-out attraction in October, the Bloomsbury invites silver-lapelled loon Paul Foot to reprise his oft-nonsensical new show, a “strange, relentless, verbal assault” on taste and decency. You’ll love it. At time of writing, the show was still bookable via this ticketing page.
TODAY’S MUSIC CHOICES
Christmas Tree Sessions, Union Chapel, 14 Dec
With a duet between Myleene Klass and Elbow’s Guy Garvey just added to its live programme, Save The Children’s charitable Christmas Tree Sessions will also encompass pared-back acoustic sets by psych astronauts Spiritualized, Guillemots’ Fyfe Dangerfield and alt-pop couple Summer Camp. Caitlin Moran, Chris Addison and Stuart Maconie will read Christmas-themed texts as part of the Lauren Laverne-hosted soiree. RSVP here.
TODAY’S THEATRE CHOICES
Victoria Melody – Northern Soul, Battersea Arts Centre, 14 Dec
Performance artist and comedienne Victoria Melody raids an ethnographic trove of quintessentially British pastimes and passions, placing particular stead in pigeons, pigeon-fanciers and ‘joining in’. Tickets here.
