In The Woods

Keen to regain that ‘Friday feeling’? These are the ways and means…

TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES

Foster’s Comedy Live feat Pete Johansson/Sean Percival/Andy White, Highlight Camden, 30 Aug
Fringe sponsors Foster’s pull a frothy comic pint, headed by amiable Canadian ex-pat Pete Johansson, Midlander (and ex-welder) Sean Percival and ‘silly voice’ specialist Andy White. Details and tickets here.

Twins Macabre, Canal Cafe Theatre, 30-31 Aug
A dark and phantasmagorical character show starring Adam Rhys-Davies and Nic Lamon as Ivy and Maurice Macabre, the singing child psychics who convene with the dead via twisted sketches. Details and tickets here.

TODAY’S FESTIVAL CHOICES

In The Woods, secret location, 30-31 Aug (pictured)
Pretty riskily given the dicey festival climate, Laurel Collective’s In The Woods is unique in the fact that its line-up remains a secret until its first day. Still, the quality of past artist like AlunaGeorge, Lianne la Havas, Alt-J, Anna Calvi gives an indication as to what this year’s listings might look like. And, if all else fails, there’s always the festival’s film screenings, prime ales and vitals, and ‘gigantic bonfire’ to appreciate until your fave act is unveiled. Details and tickets here.

TODAY’S OPERA CHOICES

Siemens Festival Nights, The Crystal, 30 Aug – 1 Sep
Siemens presents a cinematic symphony of open-air opera films, screening arias first bawled (and taped live) at the Salzburg Festival, and donating all profits to charity. Taking off tonight with Verdi’s commedia lirica ‘Falstaff’, the programme carries on tomorrow with ‘La Traviata’ and ‘Don Carlo’, celebrating familial finale via Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’. Details and tickets here.
