Dracula: Sex, Sucking And Stardom

It’s World Standards Day, which is more about celebrating (or maybe promoting) world standards in business, science and technology – another thing that began in London – rather than worrying too much about the standard of life, lunch or your evening’s entertainment. TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES

The Robin Williams Stand-Up Comedy Gala Tribute Fundraiser Night, Wilmington Arms, 15 Oct
Sara Pascoe, Matt Rees, Pat Cahill and a brill comedy clique unite to perform skits on hairy acting star Robin Williams’ Hollywood highlights. So basically, they’ll be doing ‘Mrs Doubtfire’, pastiching ‘Patch Adams’, and ideally leaving ‘One Hour Photo’ well alone. Meanwhile, Ben Target, Mark Stephenson et al of the Weirdos All Stars will be saying things about why Robin Williams is such a treasure. Direct access to online booking here.

TODAY’S THEATRE CHOICES

Everything Begins By Loving Somebody, Arcola Theatre, 15-20 Oct
An anthology of late Turkish scribe Sait Faik’s short stories are brought to the Arcola stage, albeit with English subtitles. Still, the tales retain their universal, relatable themes – those of “the hardships, joys pleasures and rich inner lives of ordinary people” – in any language. ‘Biletieri’ here.

London Horror Festival, Etetera Theatre/Wilton’s Music Hall, 15 Oct-7 Nov (pictured)
A festering fete of horror-themed goings on, as ‘Rocky Horror’ creator Richard O’Brien tonight presents the shortlist for the Stage Fright writing competition for short radio dramas. Also on the programme at large; the Last Chance Saloon’s Edinburgh sell-out ‘Dracula: Sex, Sucking And Stardom‘ (pictured), the world premiere of Dave Florez’s one act play ‘Hero/Heroine’, festival curators Theatre Of The Damned’s ‘The Horror! The Horror!, lone actor John Burns’ satanic foray into the mind of Aleister Crowley, and ‘Blood, Sweat & Sperm: An Amputated History Of The Grand Guignol’, a self-explanatorily gory seminar experience. Happy pre-Halloween!
