TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES
Joan Rivers – The Now Or Never Tour, Royal Albert Hall, 22 Oct
Comedy’s most abiding anti-ageing advocate seizes her ‘last chance’ (yeah, right) to take acid aim at various famous and non-famous unfortunates. Unfortunates, because nobody – not nobody – survives a tidal tirade from Ms Rivers. Tickets via royalalberthall.com
Phil Nichol & friends – Old Rope, The Phoenix, Cavendish Square, 22 Oct
Rant-loving comedian and TW favourite Phil Nichol baptises his new DVD ‘Nearly Gay/The Naked Racist’ with a special evening in association with his regular Old Rope comedy night. Co-Old Rope runner Tiffany Stevenson plus Holly Walsh, Tony Law, Carey Marx and Milton Jones are all also set to appear. Not bad, not bad at all. Online tickets are sold out, but arrive early to chance tickets on the door.
Milton Jones – On The Road (Work In Progress), Soho Theatre, 22-27 Oct
And talking of Jones, the Radio 4 fave is also on stage tonight at the first of a run of shows to hone his unfinished ‘On The Road’ routine. It’s a chance to MOT new material prior to the show’s proper premiere in 2013. Tickets here.
TODAY’S MUSIC CHOICES
Grizzly Bear, Brixton Academy, 22 Oct (pictured)
Brooklyn band Grizzly Bear have made one of the LPs of the year in the resplendent ‘Shields’, and tonight do it the honour of a live arena rendition at the Brixton Academy. Mercury-nominated Villagers are also playing, so that’s all the more reason to purchase tickets via this link. To soundtrack that transition, this is ‘Shields’ standout ‘Yet Again’…
