The Horne Section

Hallowe’en may be getting very close now, but before the hauntings begin here are some fine cultural treats for one and all…

TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES

The Horne Section, Purcell Room, Southbank Centre, 30 Oct – 2 Nov (pictured)
Former ThreeWeeks Editors Award winners, and TW approved again at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, Alex Horne and his big brass band present a highly-polished portfolio of silliness, skits, surrealism (and other good things not beginning with ‘S’ besides), also attracting headline cameos by Dave Gorman (2 Nov) and other so-far mystery guests. Tickets for one/all/any of the Section’s four Southbank Centre sets supplied here.

TODAY’S MUSIC CHOICES

Efterklang feat John Grant and the Northern Sinfonia – The Piramida Concert
Danish post-rock lot Efterklang collaborate with The Sage Gateshead’s in-house orchestra, the 35-piece Northern Sinfonia, in a classical restyling of their new LP ‘Piramida’. Having premiered at the Sydney Opera House back in May, the tour marks its Barbican finale with a live appearance by singer-songwriter John Grant. Advance bookings here.

TODAY’S SPOKEN WORD CHOICES

Michael Morpurgo – The Truth & The Stories, Bush Theatre, 29 Oct
The ‘War Horse’ author and his biographer, Maggie Fergusson, talk truth and fiction with regards Morpurgo’s life and literature. A chance to gain insight into his inspirations, memories and, most relevant of all, his brand new book! Tickets here.

TODAY’S THEATRE CHOICES

Khadija Is 18, Finborough Theatre, 30 Oct – 24 Nov
The critically-acclaimed Tim Stark directs the premiere proper of playwright Shamser Sinha’s first stage script. Taking the relationship between East End teenagers Liza and Khadija as a touchpoint, this searching portrayal of immigrant life concerns itself with the young, the voiceless and the dispossessed. Ticketing links here.
