Today in London: Saturday 3 August 2013
By TW Editorial | Published on Sunday 28 July 2013
Today’s arts choices, shortlisted from London’s vast cache of ‘what’s on’ options, are as follows…
TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES
The Phoenix Fringe, The Phoenix Cavendish Square, 3-11 Aug
Yes, it’s another Fringey festival for those not Edinburgh-bound to enjoy. Setting things alight tonight are: “bitter, angry, acrid, splenetic, vindictive, loving father of three” Josh Howie, bright spark Tiffany Stevenson, and the highly-flammable Alan Davies (pictured). And that isn’t nearly all – the Pheonix Fringe at large features Rufus Hound and his ‘improvised Cohen Bros movie’ show ‘Fiasco’, Robin Ince’s ‘Dirty Book Club’, panel-game anarchy at ‘Pappy’s Flatshare Slamdown’ and comical chit-chat by Shappi Khorsandi, Isy Suttie, Mark Watson, Katherine Ryan, Ben Target and Nathan Caton. Details and tickets here.
TODAY’S MUSIC CHOICES
Pale Seas, Lock Tavern, 4 Aug
Dreamy indie beatniks Pale Seas shed light on what will, when it’s released later in the year, be their very first LP, ‘Places To Haunt’. Pending this evening’s free date in Camden, hear the band’s new track, ‘Evil Is Always One Step Behind’, at this link. Details here.
Shake The Shack All-Dayer, Shacklewell Arms, 3 Aug
Tickets are £8 all in at this reasonably-priced live all-dayer, as shiftless jitter-rock trio Let’s Wrestle, nu grunge-ites Scott And Charlene’s Wedding, and est-in-1992 indie shellbacks Comet Gain try to raze Dalston’s ‘Shack’ to the paving via their combined noise. Details and tickets here.
