Bad Gones

Some American advocates of hairlessness and liberty would argue that it’s Be Bald & Free Day today, a mysterious phenomenon about which little is known besides that it’s a celebration of all that is bald and free. So if you’re bald and/or free – and preferably both – congratulations… this is your day. And for everyone else; four choice culture recommendations dated Sunday 14 Oct…

TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES

Andy & Mike’s Tick Tock Time Machine, Epsom Playhouse, 14 Oct
Suited to adults and little ones alike, madcap double-act Andy & Mike’s new inter-dimensional escapade centres on a cosmic quest to retrieve objects from the past and future. But they can’t do it alone, so audience participation is an absolute must… even on a Sunday. Tickets for performances at 11.30am and 2.30pm available here.

Comedy Store Players, Comedy Store, 14 Oct
Granted this isn’t an especially original recommendation, but the Piccadilly Circus Comedy Store’s classic Sunday roast is all but guaranteed to be good. A revolving roster, oft featuring Phill Jupitus, Richard Vranch, Lee Simpson, Neil Mullarkey, Andy Smart and Josie Lawrence, is still tbc. Come ready with your suggestions as normal. Bookings via this page.

TODAY’S FILM CHOICES

London Film Festival – In Limbo, Hackney Picturehouse, 14 Oct (pictured)
LSFF Director Philip Ilson curates a number of shorts to slot, festival-within-a-festival-style, into this year’s London Film Fest programme at large. Chosen for its collective theme, that of of life being ‘on hold’, the six-part series features Czech director Jakub Šmíd’s ‘Non Swimmers’, French soccer film ‘Bad Gones’ (pictured), and Laura Smith’s ‘The Outback Motel’. All movies together clock in at a time-saving 107 minutes, so if you’re a cineaste pushed for time, this is the perfect window into what’s going on at the LFF. Tickets here.

TODAY’S SPOKEN WORD CHOICES

An Audience With Sir Roger Moore, Rose Theatre, 14 Oct
The ever-debonaire Sir Roger Moore charms and beguiles an assembled audience with chat about his new book, ‘Bond On Bond’, and golden showbiz career in general. He’ll be doing a Q&A afterwards, a prime opportunity to ask what he makes of Adele’s plush new ‘Skyfall’ theme, amongst other things. Ticketing info here.
