Today in London: Sunday 16 December 2012
By TW Editorial | Published on Sunday 9 December 2012
More fun for movie fans wanting to feel a bit Christmassey, tonight niche film enthusiasts the Flicker Club present a screening of ‘White Christmas’ and, as a yule bonus, a surprise special guest reading of ‘The Night Before Christmas’.
So, that’s nice. Whilst you’re booking tickets to that twice-as-nice Christmas treat, why not mull over what else London’s Christmastime cultural calendar is giving out tonight:
TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES
Tom Allen’s Society, Canal Cafe Theatre, 16 Dec
Practised chat-show host Tom Allen shares Christmas-themed repartee with the candid comediennes Roisin Conaty and Mae Martin, also sharing the audience’s drinks afterwards. Tickets here.
Johnny & The Baptists’ Congregation – Christmas Special, Leicester Square Theatre, 16 Dec
Comical blues babe Jonny Donohue and band present an aptly-timed Christmas edition of their monthly Congregation, as tonight features a triple guest-starring treat in the shape of acclaimed cliche-combatant Bridget Christie, character comedienne supreme Cariad Lloyd and sartorial sketch quartet The Beta Males. Storytellers’ Club – Christmas Tales, Pleasance Theatre, 16 Dec (pictured)
Time-honoured Storytellers temps James Dowdeswell and Sarah Bennetto swap seasonal tattle with talkative special commissions Lucy Porter, Sarah Pascoe and Howard Read, sharing tales of “comically crumby Christmases and fraying festive parties”. Oh, and emphasising the evening’s general tone of harsh Xmas realism, a ‘Rubbish Presents Amnesty’. Nice. Tickets here.
