The five-day Festival Of Lights Diwali begins today, and a lantern-lit Trafalgar Square will be hosting a special ceremonial to mark this sacred Hindu occasion in luminary style. Diwali In The Square, as it’s known, will feature a spread of Asian music, dance, performance and cuisine from 2.00pm-7.00pm. But in the meantime, have a glance at several extra ways to make this October Sunday especially radiant…

TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES

Robin Ince – Pointless Anger Righteous Ire 2, Rich Mix, 28 Oct (pictured)
ThreeWeeks Editors’ Award winner Robin Ince waxes improvisational on random, audience-generated grievances, each one of which is either validated or deemed petty by a crowd vote. Special guests speakers Josie Long and Ben Goldacre join the soapbox-style rant tonight. Details here.

Russell Kane – Posturing Delivery, HMV Apollo Hammersmith, 28 Oct
Out-metrosexual and self-styled “childless, self-obsessed little twat” Russell Kane gives birth to and raises a ‘hypothetical baby’ live on stage at Hammersmith’s HMV Apollo, asking whether men are less concerned about real babies and body clocks than are the fairer sex… and if so, why? TODAY’S MUSIC CHOICES

Not So Silent Movies, Hall One at Kings Place, 28 Oct
Cellist Phillip Sheppard tempts author Brian Selznick (whose illustrated book, ‘The Invention Of Hugo Cabret’, inspired Scorsese’s ‘Hugo’) and Academy Award-winning ‘Shakespeare In Love’ composer Stephen Warbeck to have a go at  playing a spontaneous live score to a series of silent cinema reels. “Classic comedy and on-stage improvisation wizardry” are all but assured. Details and tickets here, and a pre-event video appetiser here:
