Today in London: Sunday 7 October 2012
By TW Editorial | Published on Monday 1 October 2012
Today is a time for lovey-dovey affirmations, it being You Matter To Me Day across the known world. And in that same spirit of sharing, have three London culture ‘tips’, from our heart to yours. We really mean it.
TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES
Hoopers Comedy Night, Hoopers Bar, 7 Oct
Co-headlined by seasoned bossa nova gent Earl Okin and Welshman-to-watch Matt Rees, this free-for-all charity gala also features Silky Pair, Mattie Dwyer and Sion James. And what is more, all crowd donations will go to benefit Oxjam. Event details here.
Piff The Magic Dragon In… Jurassic Bark, Ashcroft Theatre, 7 Oct (pictured)
Nonchalant in his wizardry as ever, TW favourite Piff deploys his cute comic foil, “stunt Chihuahua” Mr Piffles, in a series of logic-defying tricks and feats. Straight from this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, we’re promised canine cannons, flaming strait-jackets and the very real risk of “certain death” (for Piff or Piffles I’m not sure). All info at this address. And if you’ve never watched Piff’s stint on the Penn & Teller/Jonathan Ross magic telly vehicle from last year before, then you should do so right now.
TODAY’S FILM CHOICES
Rooftop Film Club – Anchorman, Queen Of Hoxton, 7 Oct
It being pretty autumnal and all nowadays, tonight marks the very last of the Queen’s (of Hoxton that is) open-air roof-top movie screenings. Will Ferrell caper ‘Anchorman’ will play the season out with a fruity fanfare of jazz flutes and the swishing of polyester flares; so all you need do is be present, and pray it doesn’t rain. Book seats here.
