Yard Party, Yard Theatre Hackney Wick, 15-18 Aug (pictured)
Promotions co Upset The Rhythm books a cool constellation of acts (cult singer-guitarist Michael Chapman, Thatcher-hating sludge punks Fat White Family, alt-rock band Merchandise, and real life marrieds Slim Twig and US Girls) to light up its first Yard Party. Its main aim? Oh, only to “to haul the DIY concert out of its parameters and to dismantle the passive nature of what witnessing live music in 2013 is not meant to be”. Yeah, right on. Details and tickets here.
TODAY’S THEATRE CHOICES
Dracula, The Poor School, 15-24 Aug
A group of Poor School grads, aka The Canting Crew, recast Liz Lochead’s take on the ‘original’ vamp lord in truly in-your-face fashion, thrusting ticket-holders into the gory heart of this most horrid of horror stories. ‘Head will roll, blood will spill, Dracula will rise’, they warn. Muahahahaha… ha, and all that. Details and tickets here.
