The Weir

Hey! It’s High Five Day, so high fives to that! And high fives to this handful of London’s most applauded cultural attractions…

TODAY’S CABARET CHOICES

Marcel Lucont’s Cabaret Fantastique, St James Studio, 18 Arp
That lascivious Marcel Lucont cracks his figurative whip as ringleader at this singular cirque-du-cabaret, a one-off melange of music, magic, Phill Jupitus and pro hula hooping c/o Jess Love. Details and tickets here.

TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES

Cariad Lloyd And Excellent People, Kings Place, 18 Apr
As if she weren’t pretty excellent all by herself, Cariad Lloyd is adding extra excellence to this night-time celebration of human excellence via special (and excellent) guests like the bookably bookish Jessie Cave, Australian auteur Claudia O’Doherty, improv ace Rachel Parris and weird sketch surrealists Oyster Eyes. And if that isn’t excellence itself, what in humanity is? Details and tickets here.

TODAY’S MUSIC CHOICES

Bonobo All-Dayer, Roundhouse, 18 Apr
Brighton DJ/composer Bonobo has arranged an all-day live special to hype the fact that he has a new LP, ‘The North Borders’, to release. So that’s nice of him, isn’t it? Staged at London’s Roundhouse, the Bonobian bash will co-star The Invisible, Letherette, Bullion, Illum Sphere, Dawud and Adam Buxton, who’ll be presenting a Ninja Tune (Bonobo’s label)-themed edition of his BUG video show. Details and tickets here.

TODAY’S THEATRE CHOICES

The Weir, Donmar Warehouse, 18 Apr – 8 Jun (pictured)
Awarded a ‘Best New Play’ Olivier back in 1997, Conor McPherson’s wintery ‘The Weir’ – in which a cast of strangers gather to share tales of souls past and spirits present – is given an all-star reprisal by Donmar AD Josie Rourke. The strangers are played by Brian Cox (the acclaimed actor, not the TV prof), Dervla Kirwan and Ardal O’Hanlon, hence that ‘all-star’ billing. Details and tickets here.
