Mixed Blessing presents… McNeil & Pamphilon/Birthday Girls/Trodd En Bratt/Four Sad Faces, Etcetera Theatre, 16 Apr
‘Sketchorama’-ites Gareth Cooper and Daniel Cook bless the Etcetera with an abundance of almightily great guest acts; playing MCs extraordinaire to specialists in belly laughs McNeil & Pamphilon, chameleon-like characters Trodd En Bratt and weird-and-wacky skit quartet Four Sad Faces. Oh, and a first chance to catch Birthday Girls, a new sketch spin-off featuring three-quarters of the recently deceased Lady Garden (RIP). Details and tickets here.
TODAY’S THEATRE CHOICES
Orpheus, Battersea Arts Centre, 16 Apr – 11 May
A modern, jazzy slant on a mythical fave this, as Little Bulb Theatre transcribes this timeless Orphic hymn forward to 1930s Paris, imagining a strange twist of fate francais via which guitar virtuoso Django Reinhardt is asked to play Orpheus. Audiences are promised “cheeky theatrics”, outlandish moustachery and a smoky score combining opera, hot club swing and chanson. Details and tickets here.
Othello, Olivier Theatre, 16 Apr – 6 Jul (pictured)
TV and film’s Adrian Lester takes the title part in this auspicious adaption of Shakespeare’s torrid tragedy. Nicholas Hytner directs a cast of reliable NT players, not least Rory Kinnear as scheming vizier Iago and star of BBC’s ‘The Hours’ Lyndsey Marshal as Desdemona. Details and tickets here.
