Today in London: Tuesday 25 June 2013
By TW Editorial | Published on Wednesday 19 June 2013
London’s a large place, geographically speaking and in terms of its densely-packed events calendar, and so finding one’s ideal arts attraction is a hard thing to do. Don’t sweat it, mind, because we’ve had a go at finding several post-office relaxants we think you might like…
TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES
The Boy With Tape On His Face – More Tape, Udderbelly Southbank, 25 Jun – 14 Jul
No gaffer necessary to hold this act in place, actor/mime Sam Wills’ TBWTOHF alias play-acts his mirth-giving mix of silly games, neat tricks and arch visual skits. Details and tickets here.
Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre – In Space, Leicester Square Theatre, 25 Jun – 9 Jul
They may’ve had a go at the ‘family-friendly’ thing last year, but it’s back to risque business as usual for Scotland’s sock-sporting theatre co, as they present an intergalactically-lewd new space-themed show. Details and tickets here.
TODAY’S FILM CHOICES
East End Film Festival, various cinemas, 25 Jun – 10 Jul (pictured)
As ever, this year’s EEFF presents the best in international cinema; screening the European premiere of Keanu Reeves’ seedy new indie sex-thriller ‘Generation Um…’; Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette’s Canadian-made medical drama set amid the warring West Bank, ‘Inch’Allah’ (pictured); and the Amnesty International-backed ‘A Punk Prayer’, which tracks the trials of Putin-aggravating Russian anarchists Pussy Riot. And since that’s a tiny, tiny fraction of what’s going on, I’d say this festival programme is essential viewing. Details and tickets here.
