Fans of ‘The Thick Of It’ will be glad to know that the BBC series’ profanity-prone PR maestro, aka actor Peter Capaldi, is talking sans spin about his personal and professional real-life self tonight at The House Of St Barnabas. He’ll be conversing with A Mighty Big If host, writer/actor/musician Richard Strange, on what will, given A Mighty Big If tradition, prove to be fascinating things. Tickets here.

A surprise find at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, Ian ‘Ian Smith’ Smith will do pretty much… well, ‘Anything’ to trim his new act to size, even if that means previewing it, imperfections and all, for a live audience. Reserve tickets to laugh at him doing so now.

Ja Ja Ja’s 3rd Birthday Party, The Lexington, 29 Nov
Scandiphile live night Ja Ja Ja is celebrating its third birthday in style, and has arranged a party at London’s The Lexington on 29 Nov to do so. Special guests playing on the night are Danish post-R&B soloist MØ (who’s the new Grimes, apparently), Finland’s Sin Cos Tan, and power-pop Norwegians HighasaKite. And there may be cake. And balloons. I don’t know, whatever Scandinavians do for birthdays.

White Fence, Dalston Victoria, 29 Nov
Once a guitarist with The Fall, and now fronting his own band White Fence, slavish lo-fi psych-ist Tim Presley makes his only British live appearance at the Dalston Victoria.
