Red Snapper: Touki Bouki, Queen Elizabeth Hall, 24 Apr
One to cross off the bucket list, this, as internationally-acclaimed Afro-jazz band Red Snapper play a shady original live score to a showing of Senegalese cineaste Djibril Diop Mambéty’s 1973 film ‘Touki Bouki’, as has been painstakingly reconditioned by Martin Scorsese’s Word Cinema Foundation. Having created a stage adaptation of 1980s film romp ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’ only to watch it bomb back in 2007, American writer and born drama-raconteur Peter Michael Marino takes the failed show apart in a smart, witty and self-deprecating skit. “Audiences won’t be desperately seeking the exit anytime soon”, said ThreeWeeks.
