Today in London: Wednesday 6 February 2013
By TW Editorial | Published on Tuesday 29 January 2013
So, despite certain citizens claiming it’s Lame Duck Day – a rare chance to wave bye-bye as yesterday’s sub-par politician du jour bows out with grace and dignity (or otherwise) – today, we at the ever-wayward TW London are going to do just the opposite, and say an optimistic ‘hi’ to this fair array of tonight’s main cultural attractions…
TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES
The Boy Who Was Woody Allen, Pleasance Theatre, 6-9 Feb
We all wanted to be something weird and non-feasible when we were little, and ‘TBWWWA’s tall, blond and Irish Catholic protagonist John O’Cleary – who’s played by James Phelps aka Fred Weasley in the ‘Harry Potter’ films – is no different. He’d quite like to be Jewish movie goof Woody Allen, and it’s up to playwrights David Simmons and Geoff Morrow to script a comic drama from that bizarre point onwards. Details and tickets here.
Joe Lycett – Some Lycett Hot, Soho Theatre, 6-9 Feb (pictured)
Birmingham-based hypochondriac Joe Lycett is at the same time sharp, camp and charming, as he talks real traffic tickets, fictional orphans and Clive the provocative personal trainer. Details and tickets here.
Tickled Pig presents… Tony Law, Nish Kumar, Kate Lucas & Max Dickins, Canal Cafe Theatre, 6 Feb
Andy Mac presides over a porcine comic presentation starring hirsute Canadian crazy Tony Law, and featuring the just-as brilliant Nish Kumar, Kate Lucas, Max Dickins and Pete Starr. Oh, and free Percy Pigs by the trough-load. Details and tickets here.
TODAY’S MUSIC CHOICES
Josephine, Bush Hall, 6 Feb
Young Mancunian soul queen Josephine Oniyama released her debut album ‘Portrait’ to great acclaim just last year, and as such will be playing frames (ie tracks) from it on stage tonight amid the hushed acoustics of west London’s Bush Hall. Details and tickets here.
