Spoken Word Theatre
Tuesday 11 March 2014 in London
By TW Editorial | Published on Wednesday 5 March 2014
TW’s tipped events TODAY IN LONDON are all theatrical – because, why not – and feature a bassett hound, a beauty queen, and a bunny boiler…
THEATRE: Away From Home, Jermyn Street Theatre, 11-28 Mar
Given the West End’s present craze for football-themed sex scandals, Rob Ward and Martin Jameson’s play about homophobia in the not always beautiful game (both off and on the pitch) couldn’t be better timed. ‘Away From Home’ stars Ward as a male escort hired by a closeted pro player, with whom he falls in love. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Fatal Attraction, Theatre Royal Haymarket, 11 Mar – 21 Jun
Adapted for the stage by James Dearden, who scripted the film, ‘Fatal Attraction’ is back on the boil again with Natasha McElhone in the lead as the beautiful and deadly Alex. Also starring are actor Mark Bazeley, as the object of her fevered desires, and ‘Sex And The City’ belle Kristin Davis as his wife, whilst Trevor Nunn, no less, directs. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Major Tom, Battersea Arts Centre, 11-15 Mar (pictured)
Real-life beauty queen Victoria, a self-described ‘average’ lady, explains her path to the pageants, sharing film clips and examining ideas of beauty, celebrity, and our fascination with ‘winning’. And as an extra visual aid, she has her naughty basset hound, champion show (under) dog Major Tom, along, too. Details and tickets here.
