TODAY IN LONDON, TW’s tipped events feature opera heroine Manon Lescaut, an all-male ‘The Passion Of The Christ’, and Mr Team Wonderful himself, comedian William Andrews…
COMEDY: William Andrews – Karaoke, The Invisible Dot, 14-15 Jan
The “brilliant and great” (if he does say so himself) William Andrews runs through a sung monologue about the rarely scrutinised, rudderless hinterland of one’s twenties. ‘Karaoke’ also marks the first of The Invisible Dot’s ‘New Plays’, a series of stripped back shows with big aspirations. Details and tickets here.
OPERA: Manon, Royal Opera House, 14 Jan – 4 Feb (pictured)
Stakes and passions are high in Laurent Pelly’s grand-scale adaptation of Massenet’s five-act opéra comique ‘Manon’, whose title character, a young girl longing for love, is blinded by her desire to be rich. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: The Gay Naked Play, Above The Stag Theatre, 14 Jan – 16 Feb
David Bell’s juicy stage satire spotlights ailing theatre troupe the Integrity Players, who are struggling to fill seats. Enter NYC’s brashest gay theatre team and their homoerotic version of Mel Gibson’s ‘The Passion Of The Christ’. Will the Players honour their name, or take the lowbrow plunge? Details and tickets here.
