ThisWeek’s tipped events TODAY IN LONDON feature acid-tongued Canadian glamour girl Katherine Ryan, physical theatre experts Frantic Assembly, and a war-time love story by Jean-Jacques Bernard…
COMEDY: Katherine Ryan – Glam Role Model, Soho Theatre, 22 Apr – 3 May (pictured)
As seen giving a bitter-sweet sheen to TV shows like ‘QI’ and ‘8 Out Of 10 Cats’, ‘sidebar of shame’-style pop satirist (and one-time TW interviewee) Katherine Ryan picks apart the perma-tanned, tits-and-teeth realm of glam modelling in her new solo show. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: The Believers, Tricycle Theatre, 22 Apr – 24 May
Physical theatre crew Frantic Assembly team with playwright Bryony Lavery to paint this stormy portrait of two families fighting to deal with their differences, and an ‘unthinkable’ event. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Martine – Finborough Theatre, 22 Apr – 17 Mar
This 1922 play by France’s answer to Pinter, writer Jean-Jacques Bernard, is a study in ‘beauty and longing, desire and disappointment’, illustrated by a young man just back from war in Syria, who falls in love with a rural country girl. ‘Martine’ hasn’t been seen in Britain in 25 years, which makes this staging, directed by John Littler, extra special. Details and tickets here.
