And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are….
DANCE: Romeo & Juliet | Royal Albert Hall | 11-22 Jun
Principal dancer nonpareil Carlos Acosta and English National Ballet AD Tamara Rojo lead an impressive rep cast in Derek Deane’s acclaimed adaptation of ‘Romeo & Juliet’, a large, lavish and tragic affair in which R & J’s ill-fated liaison is ringed with swordfights, family politics and Renaissance rivalry. Details and tickets here.
KIDS/THEATRE: Moominsummer Madness | Polka Theatre | 11 Jun – 16 Aug
School’s (almost) out, so what say you and the kids go and join Moominmamma, Moominpappa and family on their summer vacation. Brought from page to stage by a cast of puppeteers, the Moomins, Little My et al set sail on a floating theatre with changing scenery and all kinds of tricks up its sleeve (if theatres have sleeves). Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Our Fathers | Battersea Arts Centre | 11-14 Jun (pictured)
Award-winning company Babakas incorporates film, dance and (somehow) ‘The Sopranos’ to examine in experimental and light-hearted style the universal ties between dads and their children. This “charming” show’s characters, flirty single Sofia, pouting dancer Bert and chin-stroking actor Mike, philosophise on all-things fatherly via media like a simulated Skype call, diary extracts, and invading the audience’s space. Details and tickets here.
