And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are…
ART: Liana Psarologaki – Cryptopology | The Crypt Gallery | 13-26 Aug
Artist Psarologaki transforms the tombs of St Pancras Church into an ‘omni sensorial’ space, a free-entry maze of light, scent, temp and airflow-based stimuli designed to cause “un-patterned” reactions in visitors. Details here.
MUSIC: Slint | Electric Brixton | 13 Aug
The Slint Show is coming to town, which is to say that unsmiling post-rock unit Slint, advertising the recent(ish) re-release of their 1990 anti-classic ‘Spiderland’ LP, are playing the Brixton Electric tonight. Cool. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: The Hired Man | St James Theatre | 13-16 Aug (pictured)
A gritty musical based on a 1969 novel of the same name by TV fave Melvin Bragg (the first in his ‘Cumbrian Trilogy’), Howard Goodall’s Ivor Novello-winning portrait of a young husband and wife’s working life in 1900s Cumbria brings alive a cavalcade of British history; from ale-drinking, to whippet-racing, to coping with the looming shadow of The Great War. Having premiered in 1984, it is this year, timing with the WW1 Centenary, revived by the National Youth Music Theatre. Details and tickets here.
