The Rivals

And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…

ART: Rembrandt – The Late Works | National Gallery | 15 Oct – 18 Jan 2015
The rather disastrous autumn years of Dutch artist Rembrandt’s life are the focal point of this seasonal major show, which traces his increasingly radical and expressive style in an array of bold and self-examining paintings and prints, most emblematic of all his warts-and-all ‘Self Portrait At The Age Of 63’, which was finished in the final year of his life. Details and tickets here.

COMEDY: Mostly Comedy w/ Phil Kay + Luke Benson + Lou Sanders | Leicester Square Theatre | 15 Oct
“Bright and sparky” two-man package Doggett & Ephgrave host an in-the-mainly-comic night of… well… ‘Mostly Comedy’ by “accommodating” master-narrator Phil Kay, Amused Moose Laughter Awards finalist 2014 Lou Sanders, and tall class clown Luke Benson. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: The Rivals | Arcola Theatre | 15 Oct – 15 Nov (pictured)
Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s witty five-act society play circa 1775 is updated under the guidance of Selina Cadell. Gemma Jones stars as the formidable and gaffe-prone Mrs Malaprop, and Nicholas Le Prevost is Sir Anthony Absolute, a rich aristocrat whose son/heir pretends to be poor in order to woo the sentimental Lydia Languish. Details and tickets here.
