COMEDY: Trevor Noah – The Racist, Shepherd’s Bush Empire, 22 Jan
Following an acclaimed British trip in 2012, prodigal South African son Noah – a mixed race child of apartheid – is back again with his show ‘The Racist’, talking race, identity and discrimination. Eddie Izzard loves him, so why shouldn’t you love him too? Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: What The Women Did, Southwark Playhouse, 22 Jan – 15 Feb
As the 1914 centenary gets underway, the Southwark Playhouse and Two’s Company again shed light on these three rarely-staged plays highlighting the effects the Great War had on women, with Tricia Thorns directing JM Barrie’s ‘The Old Lady Shows Her Medals’, Gwen John’s ‘Luck Of The War’ and ‘Handmaidens Of Death’ by Herbert Tremaine. THEATRE: The Keepers Of Infinite Space, Park Theatre, 22 Jan – 16 Feb
The world premiere of Omar El-Khairy’s script looks into the consequences for ordinary people of the sorely contentious Israel-Palestine conflict, in particular through the uncompromising Israeli prison system. The play’s protagonist, bookseller Nablus, lives a normal life, til he is arrested, and must look to his past to discover why. Details and tickets here.
