Opus 7

And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are….

COMEDY: Dane Baptiste – Citizen Dane | Etcetera Theatre | 4-5 Jun
Slick London boy Dane Baptiste, one of the circuit’s hot tips, talks his Carribean lineage vs not fitting in and trying to find his place in a world of gangs, grammar schooling, and a strict home life. Details and tickets here.

OPERA: Patience | King’s Head Theatre | 4-28 Jun
Gilbert & Sullivan’s dual-act satire on silly artsy fads, which features philandering aethete Reginald and his dairy-maid lover, is given new fizz in this fresh revival by Charles Court Opera. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: Opus No 7 | Barbican | 4-14 Jun
This year’s London International Festival Of Theatre, aka LIFT, raises you this show for 12s and overs from the ‘lab’ of Russian auteur Dmitry Krymov. ‘Opus No 7’ draws the audience into a world of transformation, in which the characters and landscape can change in the blink of an eye, portraying the lives of Soviet Jews in the era of Stalin through a shifting mix of large-scale puppets, duelling pianos, living walls and newsprint blizzards. Details and tickets here.
