Going Dark

TW’s tipped events TODAY IN LONDON feature stand-up guy Henry Paker, The Cardigans’ Nina Persson, and innovative drama co Sound&Fury…

COMEDY: Henry Paker – Classic Paker, Soho Theatre, 5-6 Mar
“Nice-guy” humourist Henry Paker, a man with bags of punch and panache, brings his inarguably ‘Classic’ 2013 routine to the Soho for a second outing, proving that playing it straight down the line is sometimes a good thing. Details and tickets here.

MUSIC: Nina Persson, Scala, 5 Mar
Doing a bit of moonlighting from her place at the lead of ‘Lovefool’ hitmakers The Cardigans’ table, Swedish singer Nina Persson gives her first solo LP ‘Animal Heart’ a promotional boost with this show at the Scala, with the subtly bluesy Norma Jean Martine (of ‘No Gold’ fame) in support. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: Going Dark, Science Museum, 5-9 Mar (pictured)
First staged (to great acclaim, it has to be said) at the Young Vic’s small-scale Claire space last year, Sound&Fury reprise Hattie Naylor’s moving portrait of a man, astronomer Max, who’s losing his sight, if not his ‘vision’. Staged partly in total blackout, and partly with imaginative dapplings of light and shade, the play looks to awaken our wonder at the world, and the cosmos, all over again. Details and tickets here.
